SALISBURY, Md. - Events at the Wicomico Civic Center are proceeding as planned.

The venue’s decision to proceed with scheduled shows and events was guided by expert information sourced from public health and government authorities.

“The safety and health of our guests is our top priority,” said Civic Center manager Katie Rouse. “After consulting with our local health department and emergency services officials, we feel comfortable proceeding with the events scheduled at the venue.”

Officials also took into consideration advice from Governor Larry Hogan and the International Association of Venue Managers.

In a press release issued on Thursday, Governor Larry Hogan stated, “Marylanders should go to work or go to school tomorrow just as they normally would. At the same time, I want to continue to remind everyone to prepare themselves and continue to stay informed.”

An email issued on Thursday from the International Association of Venue Managers stated, “While experts are saying to be prudent and practice best-health recommendations that are similar to the prevention of the seasonal flu, public health authorities are not saying there should be restrictions on business or leisure travel anywhere in the United States.”

Guests are encouraged to practice every day preventative actions recommended by the CDC, including:
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

The Civic Center is increasing sanitation efforts to prevent the spread of disease per the CDC’s recommendations.

Civic Center officials will continue to monitor the situation closely. Any updates will be shared with the press, as well as posted to the venue’s website (www.WicomicoCivicCenter.org) and social media channels.
